It's been a while but I've got something!

Alright,
Being in the Excersize Science field and enjoying it... ALOT... there is alot of technology i should be able to write about... but really there isn't a whole lot of stuff athletes will do on the computer haha. But alright... this isn't really "electronic" but it is REALLY cool and technology did invent it! (or someone at Nike) but we wont get into it...

Alright so... it comes with a story! :) yay...
anyways... so the story begins on a bright sunny day sometime last spring... The Umaine softball team is oot and aboot, potentially somewhere in Hawaii :P haha yaaaa Hawaii was awesome thanks for asking.. but back the story... anyways.. So we're about to play some important game that we were potentially going to get demolished in.. cause we were probably playing the Longhorns... Ya .. you heard me... Texas Longhorns... anyways again..

I'm in the Outfield along with Alexis (ya that girl in our class) and we're taking flyballs... she goes first takes two balls, erin goes nest takes a ball and as Alexis returns to the line in center field she slaps hands with everyone in line.. and that's when i noticed them... It scared the crap out of me.. I did a double take... Red Eyes. ya... that's what I thought...

Fortunately Alexis was not possessed and The Red eyes are actually a new type of contact that nike came out with not too many years back to help those athletes who cannot use sunglasses (mostly due to discomfort, or the changes in levels that sunglasses sometimes bring) anyways I asked her about them and she told me they are from Nike and they are exactly like sunglasses except you put them in your eyes.

cool I thought so I looked them up on the internet later that night and this is what I came up with

The lenses come in amber for sports like baseball and tennis where the wearer must separate fast moving objects from the background, and grey-green for sports like golf, where the background environment is what’s visually important. Both colors filter out a significant amount of overall light, but they also sharpen and improve contrast, so they have a brightening effect, says Alan Reichow, who invented the lenses and is a sports vision consultant for Nike

And about the Colour - Those Red eyes...

"The amber lenses also turn the wearer's eye's an unsettling shade of red. But when Nike asked players if they'd like to create a version that created less of an evil eye, the answer was an overwhelming "no."

"They felt it gave them a more intimidating look," Reichow said, "and thus an edge over the competition"

(Damn right... I was intimidated by it... not that i wasn't intimidated by her before... :) haha)

Dynomometer

For the next 4 weeks of my Statistical Analysis of Human Kinetics class I am testing my class' strength.

The only way in which I am able to do this safely and accurately is by using what is called a "Strength Dynomometer"

A strength dynomoter is basically the device that everyone used in high school gym class.. the instructions are: Squeeze this as tight as you possibly can. And that will tell you your strength.. as you can tell this advancement in technology is greatly useful as you can't expect an entire class to attempt a 1 rep max. Especially not in a 50 minute class for 30 some odd people.

This post is going to be short... because I am busy working on this project
But i just beleived that it came into play and that it was important to write about... so there you go ed!

So it's been a while since i have written a blog..
It's very hard to write a blog about technology in the classroom when i'm not going to be a teacher.
It's also difficult to try and keep this entertaining if that is the case.
I mean there is technology in my Major.
It just involves different things then computers, or cell phones or whether or not we can use them to help educate.

I do believe that computers help educate younger children and the Maine laptop program is fairly important. There are many things that explain both the pros and cons of this.. many of which we talked about in class this past monday.
So i really won't get into it.

I guess because the only thing I have to talk about it technology in my major i think I will plan to do that. it basically starts out with an injury. Being a Division I athlete it is very important that if an injury occurs it gets fixed as soon as possible. The healing time period for an injury is usually fairly long... but we have technology that helps cut the healing time in half, or at least by a little bit. And this to athletes is the most important thing.

When i was in grade 11, I was unfortunate enough to separate my shoulder. I was told by the doctor at the Emergency room that I would be out for about 8 Weeks or about 2 months. I was devastated, I had alot going through my mind at those words, and none of them very good. Fortunately I played for a team that had a Physiotherapist. This physiotherapist used TENS, Muscle Stim, and also used laser treatment on my injury. He told me he could get me back in 3 weeks with the types of treatment he was doing. And truth be told, he stuck to his word and i was back playing hockey within 3 weeks.

Injury prevention is extremely important, however injury is in some cases unavoidable. Therefore what must happen is therapy. It is very important to go to physiotherapy in order to keep the injury manageable.

As you can see technology isn't just useful in classrooms, but there are many other uses for technology in health benefiting ways

1.. I can't talk
2.. Im am sore all over
3. Alexis Souhlaris is my hero...

Just so everyone knows

I am in Conway South Carolina it's about 50 degrees outside.. not as nice as most people were thinking.. but we deal at least it's not 30..

I have found that every-time we go to a hotel the one thing that it always has is internet. I believe this is because us as "student-athletes" always need to be able to be connected to our school work, and thanks to modern day technology this is possible for us to do one the road. and honestly, I know our team in particular takes academics very seriously!

Im just so excited right now though, as a team we did well today.. we got in last night at like 230 in the morning and we had to leave here at like 10 so we had really like no sleep cause we had to be up and dressed by like 9:15.. i'm sure lex will write a novel about todays game. Hmmmm can i write about technology in general or does it have to be in the classroom?

well one of the things that makes out job as softball players on the field is the scoreboard. it is a very large piece of importantness usually out in right or left field. It tells you everything! who's up, the pitch count, the inning and of course whether you are winning or losing... this particular scoreboard in South Carolina however is somewhat nice, not only does it do all of the above but it also tells the batters average up to this point their number, their at bats, their positions, SO much stuff that you usually dont see.. this makes out life easier in the outfield because think about it. when you see a girl who is hitting .100 as opposed to a girl that is hitting closer to .400 you can make adjustments accordingly.. whereas if you have no idea you basically just have to chose whether you think she is going to hit the ball hard or not. and that sometimes is a hard thing to do!

anwyays I need to get back to actually doing study hall.
Maybe you'll get another post tommorow!

I fixed it!
Sorry for the post below but I wrote this amazing blog.. and you know what happened?
technology messed it all up!
AGAIN..
I was getting frusterated in writing in Hindu and for the longest time I couldn't figure out how to change it. Now i figured it out and am speaking to you in a tongue much more familiar to me and most likely you. considering hindu is an unusual language for one to know out of high school.

SO technology in my field, ummm not sure if there is alot.
so far in my life I have had one job, In that job i was a landscaper. I cut grass, laid interlock, placed Sod, you know all the stuff that any normal athlete who likest the outdoors woudl do. honestly I think that working for the municipal government of Canada would be an awesome job. in order for me to accomplish working at all however I need to hand in resumes. being canadian and unable to travel back and forth from weekend to weekend, also knowing that I wont be home until May it is hard for me to hand in those resumes in order for me to acutally do what I want to do. Students that go to school in canada have it easy. They get everything. Jobs are basically handed to them. Most students in Canada get out at the end of April where in the states out schools finish mid May. by the time I go home and start placing resumes virtually every summer job already has 3 different students and then some fighting for the spot. I just find that I get gyped out of a summer job mostly every year.
Funny story the only reason I got mine was becuase I walked up to the boss and said i would like to work here and i could do just as good if not better then the people you have working here right now. I got an interview and within that week I was making just as much as the long - time employees and I also had most of the harder labor jobs, (meaning my boss trusted me) (I got to ride the tractor.. "she thinks my tractors sexy!") haha
anwyays those are just some of my insights to technology on my summer job hunt.

Happy hunting!

Hello to all my Blog-Followers
This past weekend The University of Maine Softball team travelled to Tennessee. Despite our losing record I feel that we accomplished a-lot of growing as a team, which is one of the main reasons we have a "preconference" schedule.
Anyways, being in Tennessee with the only communication to the outside world was through technology I found out just how much we all depend on it while away. I was able to check my online courses, check out pictures and of course facebook while in Tennessee miles from here.
Anyways I will see you all later, I need to take a nap.
bye
